The recommended printers for The Jewellery Shopkeeper are:

Sales Vouchers

• Seiko Precision SP2400 dot matrix impact printer.  This printer is simple to use, reliable and reasonably priced.  It is also suitable for dot-matrix labels, listings and letters.
• Epson TMU210PB slip printer with a Posiflex CR4000 cash drawer is fully supported for point-of-sale use.  The TMU210PB prints on plain paper - one or two part - and has auto-cutter.  (Thermal printers are cheaper, but the Tax Invoices may not be accepted by customs for VAT refund purposes.  The auto-cutter is strongly recommended due to the fact that sometimes two vouchers get printed without a pause in between.)
• Oki, as well as many other dot matrix impact printers that feature a "push" tractor, can also be used for sales vouchers but may require setting adjustments in order to provide correct tear-off for the forms.
• All known serial or parallel port cash drawers are supported.

Ink-jet or laser printers are not supported for vouchers.

Dot Matrix labels

Seiko Precision SP2400 dot matrix impact printer or any other similar printer that is either epson or IBM compatible.  Some printers do a better, clearer, print job than others.  24-pin printers will be slightly faster and will usually give a better result.

Bar code labels

• Austik Sapphire-200.  Not only is this printer simple to use, reliable and reasonably priced, but it is also the only model for which The Jewellery Shopkeeper is fully pre-programmed.
• Eltron, Intermec and Zebra bar code printers have also been successfully used but require special program settings and may also require special labels.  In general, if you already have a printer then it is worth the trouble to get it working, otherwise rather opt for the Austik Sapphire-200.  Shopkeeper Solutions can provide programs for any printer.

Listings and letters

• Seiko Precision SP2400 dot matrix impact printer.  This is a good general-purpose dot-matrix printer that features low running cost and can handle continuous paper.
• HP LaserJet.  Mid-priced and fully supported by The Jewellery Shopkeeper.   (Add the code /H after the printer 1 port setting, and /G after the printer 4 port setting in Utilities, set parameters)
• Windows-only ink-jet or laser printers, have a low initial cost, and print in good quality.  They are normally slower than the "older" text-only printers, and the workstation on which The Jewellery Shopkeeper is running, as well as the computer to which the printer is physically connected, must be running Microsoft Windows.  (Set the printer port to WINP to send the printer output through the Windows driver.  See more instructions.)

• You may choose to use a dot matrix impact printer for listings, and an ink-jet printer for letters.  That is perfectly in order.

Printer sharing

When you have more than one workstation on a network, it is normal to share printers.   This can be achieved with any network operating system.  It also helps to avoid having to have more than one printer port on each computer.  The exact method of sharing the printers depends on the operating system.  For help please contact Shopkeeper Solutions.
