WHAT JskDplay CAN DO FOR YOU

The JskDplay program is like a pole display for a point-of-sale system. It will display, suitable for customer viewing, the full details of an inventory item as if described for a valuation letter, as well as a picture of the item, if recorded.

If a picture is not available, a company logo or advert is displayed instead.

The display is automatically updated to show the inventory that is being worked on in The Jewellery Shopkeeper program whether it is a sale, a transfer, a stock-take capture, goods receiving etc. And the JskDplay can be set up to monitor any user in a multi-user environment. Better yet, it can display details and images at high speed on a wide area network without using excessive bandwidth.

Now in a second or two you can show your customers images and descriptions of items that are available from head office or other branches of your company. Give your staff a visual confirmation that the item they are looking at matches a stock code. And, like with a security camera, it will show you what items are being sold or worked with at a remote location.

The ability to display a 'slide show' will allow your prospective customers to see not only what items you have to offer in the shop, but also items that are located in other branches or even items that were already sold.

Run the 'Slide Show' in your shop window at night to replace the items that have been locked in the safe.

Licence to use JskDplay is now automatically included with the 'Plus' upgrade to The Jewellery Shopkeeper.  Get your free download now.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING UP (Also see latest instructions displayed after installation.)
In all cases, the JskDplay program must be installed on the computer that you want to run it on. You can run multiple profiles simultaneously on one machine without re-installing the program on that machine.  The server must have a registered copy of The Jewellery Shopkeeper Plus (the licence can be limited to exclude accounting, for example, but it must include the 'plus' features).

LOCAL AREA NETWORK or STAND-ALONE

After running the setup (install) program, the JskDplay program will take you to the Settings page. Here you must enter the paths for the data files.

The first (top) path is to a file name 'image.tmp'. Each user of The Jewellery Shopkeeper has his own 'image.tmp file that is created in the user's temp directory.

The default path to this file is, for DOS/Windows:
D:\JEWEL\TEMP\<user's-computer-name>\image.tmp
Where D: is the DOS drive specification or network name in the form '\\<server-name>'

And for Linux/Unix:
\\<server-ip-address>\jewel\jtemp\<user's-login-name>\image.tmp

The second (lower) path is to the inventory data and image files. The browser will help you find one of the files in the root of that file structure, any one of istock.dbf, imerch.dbf or isub.dbf can be selected and the directory that one of those files are found in will be returned.

The default path to this file is, for DOS/Windows:
D:\JEWEL
Where D: is the DOS drive specification or network name in the form '\\<server-name>'

And for Linux/Unix:
\\<server-ip-address>\jewel

WIDE AREA NETWORK

If your workstation is on the Local Are Network, and you wish to view the data being worked on by a remote workstation, use the above instructions. However, if you wish to run the JskDplay program at the remote location, where the link to the server computer is via a modem or other restricted speed network, then the following instructions must be followed:

After running the setup (install) program, the JskDplay program will take you to the Settings page. Here you must enter the paths for the live data and the off-line data.

Requirements:

The server network must be routed to the remote site. This means that a dial-up or modem pcAnywhere connection cannot be used. If you have routers that extent your local area network (LAN) to a wide area network (WAN) and you are using DOS/Windows with pcAnywhere, or Linux/Unix terminals, then the following instructions must be followed:

After running the setup (install) program, the JskDplay program will take you to the Settings page. Here you must enter the paths for the live data and the off-line data.

The first (top) path is to a file name 'image.tmp'. Each user of The Jewellery Shopkeeper has his own 'image.tmp. File that is created in the uer's temp directory.

The default path to this file is, for DOS/Windows:
\\<servername>\JEWEL\TEMP\<user's-computer-name>\image.tmp
Where <servername> can be either the network name or the IP address of the server.

And for Linux/Unix (Linux must have Samba and Unix must have AFPS installed):
\\<server-ip-address>\jewel\jtemp\<user's-login-name>\image.tmp

The second (lower) path is to the inventory data and image files. These must be copied from the server onto a hard disk or CD local to the remote computer.

Note: in all the above examples, the server name could be used instead of its IP address if a name server is correctly set up. However for a small network this is unnecessary

MULTIPLE JSKDPLAY INSTANCES ON ONE COMPUTER.
You can set up any number of unique profiles without reinstalling JskDplay by simply dragging - with the Ctrl key depressed - the JskDplay icon that you want to duplicate, to a new spot on the 'desktop'. This will make a "Copy of..(the icon)".
Right-Click on the new icon and click on 'properties'. In the Target field, after jskdplay.EXE, add a space and a one-word name for the new profile. For example:
"C:\Program files\JSK32\Jskdplay.EXE" pro200

(Note that Windows needs quotation marks around the program path name in order to allow the space in the name 'Program files')

Save the properties and then right-click the icon again and select Rename and type in a name of your choice, for example 'JskDplay Pro200'.

The unique profile will also store its own unique 'slide show' image list.

By default, the normal Data monitor is displayed. If you would like to have the program start up automatically in the 'slide show' mode, then you must add a second parameter to the command line, with the word SLIDE, SLIDES or SHOW, or any one or more of the letters in those words. For example:
"C:\Program files\JSK32\Jskdplay.EXE" pro200 Slide

To get maximum sized display, set the screen resolution to 640x480. With Windows XP you can set the shortcut 'Compatibility' tab to run the program in 640 by 480 screen resolution. Alternatively, for a full screen display regardless of screen resolution, mark the "Maximize & centre" check box at the bottom of the Settings page, click on "Apply/Save" and restart JskDPlay.

CHANGING THE COMPANY LOGO
Simply replace the file 'C:\Program files\JSK32\LOGO.BMP' with your own.
